In India, it is grown in Punjab, Assam, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Haryana, Baroda, Karnataka and Tamilnadu. In Tamilnadu, it is cultivated in Udhagamandalam (Ooty).

The Nilgiris Fennel seeds are medicinally used as carminative and stimulant. Fennel oil is extracted from the fruits and seeds and it is used in medicines.
