DESCRIPTION

Nilgiris Cloves are one of the most important and useful spices. They are the dried, unopened flower buds of Syzygium aromaicum. The shape of the bud is naillike. The plant is a small, conical evergreen tree. In South India it is cultivated in the Nilgiris (Burliar and Gudalur), Tenkasi Hills, Kanyakumar and Kerala (Kotttayam and Quilon). The value of nilgiris cloves is due to the presence of essential oil content (free eugenol 70 – 90%, eugenol acetate and caryophylline).

Cloves are aromatic and richly flavoured. It is antiseptic in nature and used for tooth ache. It is also used in certain tooth pasts and for mouth washing.
