DESCRIPTION

Nilgiris Bay leaves are obtained from Laurus nobilis, L (Lauraceae). The plant is a small tree, which is a native of Asia Minor. It is found in France, India and other countries. In the Nilgiris, it is common is Gudalur, Coonoor, Kothagiri and other places. Leaves and fruits are aromatic and also medicinal. An essential oil is extracted from the bay leaves and used in perfumery.

Seeds are the source of an aromatic fat, used in medicines for diarrhoea and dropsy.
